Today an M290 arrived to add to our M280 and 7 M270s, M400 and unique M400/4. We needed it to support our customers with M290s – and benchmark the processes and reliability against our M270 which have faithfully served us since 2006.

Fresh out of the EOS M400- a 400mm diameter “combustor can” (of our own design). Still on the baseplate and not yet de-powdered. You can see the support structures underneath.

This is build in a nickel superalloy- and for the sake of Google I’ll add that this process is sometimes called DMLS, or SLM or laser powder bed additive manufacturing.

About Additive Manufacturing
Additive Manufacturing is the building of components by adding material layer by layer. A 3D model is sliced and each slice is turned into a physical layer of the part. The completed part is thereby formed of multiple layers. These layers may be formed by a number of different methods- such as UV curing a liquid polymer, extruding a polymer filament or electron beam or laser melting a powder.
