Focus, focus focus
In 2006 we set out to deliver Additive Manufacturing (Selective Laser Melting, 3D Printing) capability to OEMs faced with reducing the environmental impact of their products. Aero engines for example, where significant improvements in emissions and fuel efficiency are required. These are big problems that big companies need to solve- fast.
Some of these improvements come through improved combustion and higher gas temperatures. So we focused on developing Additive Manufacturing processes for nickel superalloys. This has taken us to the center of the core of gas turbine engines. And so our customers can fit our parts- where it matters- we’ve put in place sophisticated manufacturing and business systems and got them approved.
And we’ve focused on these high temperature materials for gas turbines- with only a few exceptions- ever since.
Recently we’ve developed some specialist stainless steels for nuclear applications. And most recently we’ve started on titanium alloys to see if we can add some value there.
